Dog food for puppy with diarrhea
Puppy food for dogs with diarrhea, what food helps puppies with diarrhea, what can you feed your dog when he has diarrhea.
I have a 7 month old mixed breed puppy who is very healthy and has never had diarrhea before. He’s been eating dry food (Purina One) for about 3 months now and just recently started getting loose stools. It’s not too watery, but it definitely seems like he’s having some trouble going to the bathroom. I’ve tried feeding him a bit more frequently than usual, but this doesn’t seem to help much.
I did take him in to the vet last week because I noticed that he had some bumps on his belly which looked like fleas or something like that, so they gave me some medicine for it (which it cleared up). The doctor said at the time that there was nothing wrong with my puppy and told me to bring him back if his condition didn’t improve over time.
Any suggestions on how to help my puppy?
Puppy food for dogs with diarrhea
If your puppy has diarrhea, you might be wondering what the best food is for puppies with diarrhea.
The best diet for a puppy with diarrhea is one that is low in fiber and carbohydrates. This can help prevent further irritation of the digestive tract and reduce the amount of liquid that goes into his system.
You should not feed your dog any kind of human food that is high in fat or sugar. This includes cheese, chocolate, cakes and pastries. These foods can cause even more problems for your puppy’s sensitive stomach.
What food helps puppies with diarrhea?
If you have a puppy who has just begun having frequent bouts of diarrhea, you may want to switch him over to a high quality puppy food brand until he finishes growing up. It’s best to consult with your vet before making any changes to his diet though because they may have some suggestions or concerns about feeding him certain brands or types of foods.
Puppies can get diarrhea for many reasons, including parasites and viruses. If your puppy has been diagnosed as having a virus or parasite, you’ll need to treat the underlying cause while treating the diarrhea itself.
If your puppy’s diarrhea is mild, try feeding a bland diet until the diarrhea clears up. A bland diet includes boiled chicken and rice, plain yogurt or cottage cheese, scrambled eggs and rice, or canned pumpkin. These foods are low in fat and don’t upset a dog’s stomach as much as other foods do.
Puppies with diarrhea should be given frequent small meals rather than one or two large ones each day. This will help prevent dehydration from fluid loss through stools that are too loose and frequent.
If your puppy continues to have diarrhea after three days on the bland diet, call your veterinarian for advice on what else to do.
Puppies with diarrhea can be a nightmare for any dog owner. The best thing to do is to make sure your puppy is drinking plenty of water and get him to the vet immediately if he is not acting normally.
When puppies have diarrhea, they need to replace fluids quickly so they don’t become dehydrated. Because of this, it’s important that you make sure your puppy always has access to fresh water and doesn’t eat anything until after they have been examined by their veterinarian.
The biggest danger in having diarrhea is that the puppy will become dehydrated if he isn’t drinking enough water or if he has an underlying medical condition that is causing his symptoms. If your puppy shows signs of dehydration such as lethargy (especially when combined with vomiting), sunken eyes or dry gums, then it’s important that you take them in for veterinary care immediately.
If your puppy has diarrhea, it’s also important that you keep an eye out for blood in the stool (which may indicate a more serious problem) or mucus (which may indicate an infection).
Let’s face it, diarrhea is one of the most common and least fun things that can happen to your dog. It can be very stressful for you and your pup, but there are some steps you can take to help make it more manageable.
What Causes Diarrhea in Dogs?
There are a number of reasons why dogs get diarrhea, including:
Infections or other illnesses like parvo virus or distemper
Allergies or sensitivities to food or other substances
Stress from travel or boarding at the vet’s office
Undigested food in kibble being passed through their system too quickly (especially if they have a small stomach).
Treating Your Dog’s Diarrhea Naturally
The first thing to do when your dog starts vomiting is to call your vet! Sometimes it’s just something as simple as giving them an antacid for heartburn (if you suspect that might be the issue) but otherwise it could mean something more serious such as an inflamed pancreas (a condition called pancreatitis).
