Boxers come in many different sizes and colors. They can have either short or long hair, but all of them have that signature boxer face.
There are five main types of boxers:
The standard is the most common type of boxer, and it has a square head, broad shoulders and a sturdy body with well-developed musculature. It has a short coat that comes in any color other than brindle (which is stripes on a fawn background). Brindling means a mix of browns, blacks and reds in the coat’s color pattern, so if you see a brindle boxer, it’s not a true boxer.
The miniature is smaller than the standard variety and comes in any color other than brindle. Its head is narrower than that of a standard boxer but still square in shape. Its coat tends to be shorter than that of its larger counterpart’s — no more than 2 inches long at most — but it still needs regular brushing to keep matting at bay. Miniature boxers are usually friendly and good with children, making them excellent family pets.

Toy boxers are even smaller than miniatures — less than 10 inches at the
The Boxer originated in Germany in the late 1800s. The name comes from their tendency to stand on their hind legs and “punch” with their front paws.
The American Kennel Club currently recognizes three different types of Boxers: the Fawn, Brindle and the Black & Tan.
Fawn – The fawn boxer has a light-colored nose, eye rims, lips and nails. Its coat can be red, cream or brown, with or without white markings.
Brindle – The brindle boxer has a dark colored nose, eye rims and lips. Its coat can be red, brown or black with or without white markings.
Black & Tan – The black & tan boxer has a dark colored nose, eye rims and nails. Its coat can be red or fawn with or without white markings.
There are four recognized Boxer breeds that have been officially established by the American Kennel Club and are eligible for competition in the conformation ring.
The German Boxer, also known as Deutscher Boxer or German Bullenbeisser, is a medium-sized dog with short hair and a square head. The physical characteristics of this breed are similar to that of the English Bulldog: they have a large head with wide, flat cheeks; a very short, broad muzzle; and a black nose. Their eyes are round and large with dark rims, giving them an expression that is alert and intelligent.
The American Boxer was developed from crosses between the German Bullenbeisser (Boxer) and other breeds such as the Bulldog, Great Dane, Dachshund and Terrier breeds. They were bred to be companion dogs for police officers, who needed dogs that would not be afraid to fight in their defense if attacked. The American Boxer has greater speed than its German cousin but lacks its strength and endurance because it has not been bred for these traits since World War II ended in 1945
The Miniature or Toy Boxer was developed from crosses between other breeds such as Poodles
The Boxer is a medium-sized, short-haired breed of dog developed in Germany. The coat is fawn and can have a black mask.
Boxers were originally bred as all-around working dogs. Today, they are also trained for dog sports such as Schutzhund, agility and obedience. According to the AKC breed standard, an ideal specimen should be 18 to 20 inches (46 to 51 cm) at the withers, weigh around 50 pounds (23 kg), and have a muscular body with powerful muscles.
The Boxer was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1904. In 1930 it was one of the first breeds recognized by the American Rare Breed Association.
The Boxer originated from Bullenbeisser which were originally bred in Germany sometime around the year 1860 by crossing bulldogs with mastiffs. These dogs were then crossed with terriers, which resulted in a smaller version of Bullenbeisser that had more stamina and less aggressive behavior. This new type of dog was called Boxer because it was used for hunting game in boxes or pits. The name “Boxer” comes from its short round ears which reminded people
The Boxer is a breed of working dog, best known for its loyalty, affection and love of children. The breed was developed in Germany as a medium-sized weapon to aid hunters. Boxers have been a popular family pet since the late 19th century.
There are three different types of Boxer: German, American and French. The German Boxer is the original type developed by Captain Max von Stephanitz, a German breeder who wanted to produce a dog that could be used for both protection and hunting in the field. The American Type was developed by crossing the German with Bull Terriers to create a larger dog with better guarding instincts than the other two types. The French type was bred from crosses between the European type dogs (German and English) with French Bulldogs so as to give them more size and weight while maintaining all their other qualities as well as their speed and agility.
