There are many different breeds of domestic cats. It is estimated that there are more than 300 cat breeds in the world, but most of these have been developed only recently.

The American Cat Fanciers’ Association (ACFA) recognizes 49 purebred cat breeds. The International Cat Association (TICA) recognizes 35 purebred breeds and 37 new breeds under development. The Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) recognizes 44 purebred breeds and 41 new breeds under development.
