The side view shows the shape of the neck, ears, muzzle and mouth. The shape of each part can help you determine whether you’re looking at a male or female horse.
The ears of a male horse are larger than those of a female, and they have a more tapered tip. The muzzle is narrower in males than in females, which also helps with identification. Additionally, the line where the upper lip meets the lower lip is straighter in males than in females—it’s almost flat-looking on a male while it has a slight curve on a female.
