How To Train A Horse Breath Of The Wild

How To Train A Horse Breath Of The Wild

Introduction

Link can’t just go around stealing horses in the newly released The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Instead, you’ll have to tame a horse and then register it so it will always be available for you to summon. While taming a horse may seem like a daunting task, we here at IGN have done all the hard work for you. Simply follow these instructions and you’ll be riding on your very own steed in no time:

Take a carrot and be in front of the donkey/horse you want to tame.

To begin training a horse, you will need to find a carrot. You can buy carrots from merchants in towns or find them in chests located around Hyrule. Once you have the carrot, locate a horse and approach it with your weapon drawn. If the horse is wild, feed it the carrot by pressing A (or whatever button you use for picking up items). If the horse is tame, then simply walk behind it while facing away from its rear end and press A once more to mount it.

When the donkey/horse comes near, press A as a prompt appears on your screen.

When you see the prompt, press A to make your horse eat or drink. If you press A too early, too late, too quickly, too slowly or from too far away/close it will not work.

You will mount the horse, but it will not know how to follow where you want it to go.

Once you have a horse, you will mount it. However, it will not know how to follow where you want it to go. You will need to teach the horse how to follow where you want it to go by riding alongside it and holding down the A button for about 10 seconds.

Open up your inventory by pressing the + button and hold up on the left analog stick. This will cause Link to pull out carrots. Don’t worry, you won’t lose any of them.

In Breath of the Wild, your horse will only eat carrots. Feeding a steed is easy: just open up your inventory by pressing the + button and hold up on the left analog stick. This will cause Link to pull out carrots. Don’t worry, you won’t lose any of them!

When the horse is close enough, press A (and continue holding up on the left analog stick).

When the horse is close enough, press A (and continue holding up on the left analog stick). The carrot will be eaten and your horse will begin to follow you. If you let go of either the carrot or left analog stick, then your horse won’t be tamed.

There are also two other ways to make a wild horse into a mount: You can ride it without taming it first, which means that if you fall off at any time then it will run away from you forever and possibly die; or you can tame it with food from ‘The Legend of Zelda Breath of Wild’ series, but I don’t recommend this because there aren’t any apples in Hyrule yet so we don’t know when they’ll show up in future games!

Ride alongside until a prompt appears that says “Hold A to calm” or something similar. Hold down A for about 10 seconds and you will have tamed your first horse in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild!

Once you’re alongside the horse and it has calmed down, hold down A for about 10 seconds. You should see a prompt that says “Hold A to calm” or something similar. This will take quite a while, so be patient! You will eventually tame your first horse in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild by holding down A continuously until being asked if you want this particular horse as your mount. Once you accept its offer (which is done with A), your new friend will become yours!

That is how you tame a donkey and horse in Breath of the Wild!

  • Don’t worry, you won’t lose any carrots.
  • Don’t try to tame a horse while it is running.
  • Don’t try to tame a horse that is not interested in you.
  • Don’t try to tame a horse that is not near you!

Conclusion

Once you have tamed a donkey or horse, you can access it from any stable in the game. Also, once you have tamed them, you will always be able to hear them when they are nearby. This is really useful for hunting and finding more donkeys/horses! If you want to find more donkeys/horses and tame them yourself, check out our guide for Breath of the Wild!
